Citation Managers
Overview
As we transition away from EZproxy, it's important to stop using the Tufts EZproxy prefix in your citation managers. To ensure seamless access to your citations, follow the steps for your citation manager to avoid generating EZproxy links in the future.
Please note, there is no automated method to switch link authentication from EZproxy to OpenAthens. Any links containing .ezproxy.library.tufts.edu will need to be updated manually. Use our EZproxy Link Transformer tool to help you.
Zotero
Follow the steps in the next section to update your Zotero Connector. Once updated, Zotero will stop saving the EZproxy prefix in the URL field of your items.
If you already have items in your library with Tufts EZproxy information in the URL field, you can update them by using our EZproxy Link Transformer tool to generate new OpenAthens-compatible links. Here’s how:
- Click on the URL field in your item’s details to make it editable. Highlight and copy the entire URL.
- Go to the EZproxy Link Transformer and paste the copied URL into the tool.
- Copy the new URL that the tool generates.
- Return to your item’s details and paste the updated URL into the URL field.
- Click outside the URL field to save your changes.
Zotero Connector
If you are using the Zotero Connector browser extension, you must disable the Tufts EZproxy settings. Follow these steps to update your settings:
- Open Zotero Connector Settings
In your preferred browser, go to the settings for the Zotero Connector extension.
Google Chrome
Look for the Zotero Connection icon (a small "Z" or page-type icon) in the toolbar area to the right of your browser address bar. If you don't see it, click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions) - it may be hidden there.
Right-click the Zotero Connector icon and select Options from the context menu. Or, if you used the puzzle piece option, click the three dots and choose Options. Alternatively, go to the extensions page, find Zotero Connector, and click Details > Extension options. Go to the next step.
Firefox
Go to the Menu on the right-hand side of your browser and go to Extensions and Themes. On the left-hand side click Extensions Extensions and find the "Zotero Connector". Click on the three dots and choose Options. Go to the next step.
Edge
Look for the Extensions icon in the toolbar area to the right of your browser address bar. Click on the puzzle piece icon. Find the Zotero Connector in the list. Click on the three dots and choose extension options. Go to the next step.
Safari
Look for the Zotero Connector extension to the right of your browser's address bard. Right-click on the icon which can be a "page" symbol or "folder" symbol. Choose Options. Go to the next step.
- Access the Proxies Tab
Click on the Proxies tab within the settings menu.
- Remove Hostnames
Find the box at the bottom labeled Hostnames. Click on a hostname in the list and then press the minus button. Do that for each hostname until none remain in the list.
- Remove Configured Proxies
Look at the Configured Proxies list. If any URLs in the list include the term 'ezproxy.library.tufts.edu,' select that URL and click the '-' (minus) button at the bottom to remove it.
- Disable Proxy Redirection
Locate the checkbox labeled Enable proxy redirection. Uncheck this box to disable proxy redirection.
- Clear your browser cookies
See our instructions on clearing specific browser cookies.
