Overview

The Tufts Libraries are in the last phase of transitioning from EZproxy to OpenAthens. As of Februrary 23, if you use an EZproxy link, you will be directed to a screen that provides the new link for the resource that you are trying to access. Please replace the link you just used with the new link provided. Just use the copy button to copy the new link. Updating your links now will help avoid access issues later. After you change your link, you can then click on the Go to the New URL button and you will be taken to your resource.

EZproxy for Backup Access

If we experience any long-term access issues with OpenAthens, we may temporarily switch some resources to EZproxy authentication until the issue is resolved. This change will happen behind the scenes. As long as you are using the OpenAthens-compatible links, you will be automatically directed to the correct login. EZproxy will now ask you to log in even if you are on-campus.

Updating Your Bookmarks

If you use browser bookmarks to access library resources, those bookmarks will need to be updated with the new OpenAthens-compatible links. Follow the instructions below to change the bookmarks in your browser.

Google Chrome

1. Open Chrome.
2. Click the three dots in the top right corner to get to the Bookmarks menu.
3. Select Bookmarks and Lists and then Bookmark Manager.
4. Find the bookmark you want to update.
5. Right-click the bookmark and choose Edit. Alternatively, you can select the three dots to the right of the bookmark name and choose Edit.
6. Replace the existing URL with the new OpenAthens-compatible URL.
7. Click Save.

Tip: If the bookmark is on your bookmarks bar, you can right-click it directly and choose Edit.

Firefox

1. Open Firefox.
2. Click the hamburger menu (three-line menu icon) in the top-right corner to get to the Bookmarks menu.
3. Select Bookmarks.
4. At the very bottom of the menu, click Manage Bookmarks. A new window will open.
5. In the Bookmarks Menu, find the bookmark you want to edit.
6. Click the bookmark. You should see the URL at the bottom.
7. Replace the URL with the new OpenAthens-compatible URL.
8. Close the window. Your changes save automatically.

Tip: You can also right-click a bookmark on the bookmarks toolbar and choose Edit Bookmark.

Safari (macOS)

1. Open Safari and click Bookmarks in the menu bar.
2. Select Edit Bookmarks.
3. Find the bookmark you want to update.
4. Control-click (or right-click) the bookmark and choose Edit Address, or double-click the URL field.
5. Paste in the new OpenAthens-compatible link and press Return.

Tip: If the bookmarks sidebar is open, you can edit bookmarks there using the same steps.

Microsoft Edge

1. Open Edge and click the Favorites icon (the star) in the toolbar.
2. Select Manage favorites.
3. Locate the bookmark you want to change.
4. Right-click it and select Edit.
5. Paste in the new URL and click Save.

Tip: Bookmarks on the favorites bar can also be edited by right-clicking them directly.
